Hi Everybody -
Hope you are enjoying summertime. It is nice to see the sun shining, crops growing, and my flowers are blooming !
More good news..........our township has approved for Woodman Rd to be paved from US 131 down to Butler Road (a 2 mile stretch), This project is to be completed by the end of October, 2008. So no more dusty & bumpy road to get to the training center!
It seems that agility is the big interest item right now in the dog world. Here at the training center, we aim for you to have an "all round dog" which would take in more than agility. That is why we offer obedience & rally, and this year have added carting. Although we have some hurdles to get over, herding may become possible this winter, and we have many people in the area now that are doing tracking & weight pulling. But still, obedience plays some part in all of these other venues, and also in our daily lives. That's why we offer the basic beginning obedience - ah, to have your dog walk nicely on a loose leash.
Starting in September, on Tuesday nights, I am going to try and start something new - something never heard of before. I can tell you it will be fun, it will involve Obedience, Rally, & Agility, & it will have a twist in it that it will almost be like one of those "who dunnit" mystery suspense movies. That's all I am going to say right now. But watch the August & September newsletters as I will be giving out more "clues" and you are going to want to keep Tuesday nights open. More to come....
Report on "Canine Contacts" Dog Expo on Saturday, June 28th
Thanks to all of you, this year's dog expo was bigger and better than last year's ! We were able to earn 22% more this year than last year - AC PAW received $657.00. I would like to thank everybody who gave their very best to put on such a great day! And a "hats off" to all my chair people who had things so well organized that I actually got to walk around and talk with people.
Be sure and check out the photographer's website www.picturaphoto.com and look at all the wonderful pictures out there - both inside and outside activities. The photographer did a great job on covering the event.
I have already been approached by the Kalkaska Citizens for Animals and they would like to help with the expo and would like to be the recipient of the money for the 2009 expo. I attended one of their meetings. They are a non-profit 501(c)3 organization located in Kalkaska County. They work with the Kalkaska Animal Control and also sponsor spay and neuter clinics once a month for all areas, not just Kalkaska. Their website is www.KCAcares.org. They have a wonderful message - "Saving one pet won't change the world, but surely the world will change for that one pet." -Author Unknown

Dog Events at the Pavillions (near Munson Hospital)
The Pavilions wants to get more dogs into their facility to visit with their residents, especially during the daytime. (You are welcome evenings and weekends, too.) Visiting dogs need to be well behaved and DO NOT have to be a certified Therapy Dog. They have asked employees, depending on their jobs, to bring in their dogs and have been very pleased with the results – but they don’t have the numbers of dogs that they would like. To participate, as an owner/handler, be certain that your dog will behave in the building and dealing with residents, equipment, etc. You will need to fill out a volunteer application and provide a copy of your dog’s vaccination record. To get the volunteer application, contact Linda Dennis, Volunteer Coordinator, at 932-3054. Linda is located in the Hawthorne Cottage.
