April 2008

Hi Everybody -

Time for another newsletter, & with lots going on! First, I will be gone from Wednesday, April 9th thru Sunday, April 20th. Please do not email me during this time, as it will lock up my email. I will be in Colorado at the Sheltie Nationals, so will not be that close to my phone. So if you could also hold your calls undless it is an emergency, please do not call as you will probably just get my voice mail.

Cathy Winkler will be teaching the regular class schedule of classes during this time. If you need to reach her, call her home at 231-947-5508. She has a daytime job so leave a message. Cathy & I both appreciate your cooperation for the next couple of weeks. THANKS.

Dog Scouts Troop #178
Meeting Saturday, April 26th.
Come join in the fun of Dog Scouting by learning new skills with your dog and educating our community about how wonderful and rewarding dog ownership can be through responsible dog parenting. Your dog will have the opportunity to earn badges in backpacking, hiking, agility, obedience, water work, tracking, pulling, community service and so much more! Well work on developing our skills as responsible dog parents and in educating the public through seminars, demonstrations, training fun days, fund raising and other fun and exciting activities. Meet with like-minded folks who love their dogs as much as you and share in your passion for making life with our dogs all it can be.

Please visit our web site at www.twinbaydogs.com for a calendar of events and join in on the discussion about one of our favorite things...our dogs! Our next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, April 26th. Were planning to have an agility fun day for those who want to get their feet wet in the sport or for those seasoned veterans who just want to have fun. Well also be naming our Dog Scouts troop, so be sure youre there to cast your vote! Directions for meeting place and time to come. As a fun activity, were also planning to attend a Freestyle Workshop in Charlevoix on Saturday, April 12th (please see our website for specifics) for those who would be interested in learning something new with their dog(s).

Dog looking for home
Jack is believed to be a Retreiver / Border Collie mix, who is approximately one year of age. He was found chained up in a yard with the chain embedded in his neck. With minor surgery and antibiotics this has healed nicely. This little boy is a 38 pound bundle of energy, enthusiasm and affection. He has been treated for intestinal parasites, his shot are up to date and has been neutered.

His foster mom is working on obedience training, house manners, and providing an outlet for his boundless energy. He is also learning to play with toys. He plays well with his foster Moms female Border Collie. Jack is currently enrolled in a beginning Agility class and doing well. This is a very sweet, fun-loving boy with puppy charm who wiggles his entire body when you interact with him.

He just needs the right family to adopt him that is patient and understanding of his youthfulness and inexperience. They need to be experienced in managing and training Jack along with meeting the needs of a high energy dog.

Due to his chained life prior to fostering, Jack is learning new skills and what it is like to be a family dog. As we are getting to know Jack, he has demonstrated some guarding but coming along nicely with good management. He would be suited for a family without small children or other dogs. His new family needs to be experienced in managing his environment and training Jack along with meeting the needs of a high energy dog.

Jack is being cared for in Northern Michigan. For more information, please contact his foster mom, Casey, at caseyc2424@yahoo.com

Dog looking for a home
Grace 3/31/08 Breed: Border Collie mix
Age: 10 months
Sex: Female/Spayed
Vet History: Current on shots and Bordatella, Heartworm Negative. 24PetWatch Microchip implanted.

Grace came into foster care as her owners didn't have time to spend with her. She is a 10 month old Border Collie mix and is easy going and super affectionate! She is well socialized with people and other dogs. Her favorite activities are playing in the snow and "cuddle time" on the couch. Her foster Mom is helping her with basic obedience skills and house manners. She sleeps at night in a crate without complaint and is making great progress at leash walking. She has been spayed, wormed and her shot series initiated. Grace is a very sweet girl and a wonderful companion. northstar@pentel.net

Chocolate Lab Needs Home
A former member of GTK club (Lynn Bosley) called me about her son's Lab that needs a new home. It's a 10 or 11 mo. old intact male, needs training, great temperament. The son and his girlfriend split up; he can't keep it in an apartment, and the dog is being passed back and forth and to Lynn, but she can't deal with it much because of physical reasons. I think this dog needs a home real soon. Contact Diane at 231-943-0559
