October 2008

Hi Everybody!

Wow, this month flew in - almost missed it! Seems that things aren't slowing down one bit! Nice colors outside, sunshine, this must be Indian Summer. Let's hope it stays for awhile.

Our group from here are traveling back from the Teacup Nationals that were held in Wesminster, Vermont this past weekend. Story has it that they collected tons of free stuff, won many of the raffle items, and made lots of new friends. Also heard that one of the dogs (could it be the Sheltie, Tommy? - YES!) made it into the finals on Sunday. Another dog, Lil Honey Bear owned by Carol Saylor, finished his Beginners title in Standard. I'm sure there are more stories to tell and will unfold as they make their way back up to Michigan. And pictures, oh my!

Canine Good Citizen Testing Coming to the Training Center
We will be having our fall Canine Good Citizen testing here at the training center on Saturday, October 25th. We will be having a practice session on Wednesday, October 15th at 7 PM to go over all the stations of the testing. There are still some spots left in the practice session. You can take the practice session & then decide if you want to sign up for the testing. Cost is $15 per dog for the practice time. You will be assigned a time for the actual test day so that you do not have to sit around for a long time. There will be no therapy dog testing. Registration starts at 9:30 AM on Saturday Oct. 25th with the testing to begin at 10 AM. Cost is $10 per dog and you should bring your original rabies certificate and a comb or brush for the dog. Please register early - spots will fill fast!

Teacup Agility Trial

FAST Class
Tuesdays, October 21 & 28
We are looking for 4 or 5 dogs who are interested in knowing the strategies and techniques of the newest AKC agility class called FAST. Cathy Winkler has been playing the Novice FAST (which is where everybody has to start at the novice level) and plans to share & teach how the Fast Class is done. Class will be on the above Tuesdays, Oct 21 & 28 at 6:15 PM for 1 hour each week. You will learn how to play the game, design your own course, using various strategies and then try it to see if it works. Class size is limited so please let Jane know. FAST will be offered at the show in Lansing over the Thanksgiving weekend. all 3 days. So it is possible to get a title in one weekend. But you need to know how to play the game........

Dog Carting Workshop
Saturday, November 1st
A carting workshop will be held here at the training center on Saturday, Nov. 1 Barbara Grob will be here to talk about carting and helping people who have never done carting before, and helping those who have already started the fun sport of carting. This is open to anybody at all levels. No previous experience, you don't even have to have a harness or equipment. We will furnish that for you to try with your dog. There will be carts and harnesses to try from little dogs to big dogs. Mixed breeds are welcome. There is 1 working spot left. No auditors. Contact Jane if interested.
